Summary of the Agreement
The Trust Agreement was executed on January 6, 2004 to create a permanent community trust fund for the benefit of present and future members of the Six Nations of the Grand River.
The trust was established primarily to receive and invest revenues flowing to Six Nations under the Casino Rama Revenue Agreement.
The agreement emphasizes that these funds are intended to be treated as a long-term asset, invested for the benefit of both current and future generations.
Purpose of the Trust
The Trust exists to:
- Receive certain gaming-related revenues payable to Six Nations.
- Preserve those monies as a long-term community asset.
- Invest and grow the funds.
- Enhance the growth, capacity, and well-being of Six Nations and its members.
- Benefit both present and future generations.
The agreement specifically describes the compensation received as:
“…a long-term asset to be invested for the present and future benefit of the Beneficiaries…”
Beneficiaries
The beneficiaries are defined as:
- The Six Nations First Nation itself; and
- All members appearing on the Six Nations Band List.
Benefits are intended to accrue collectively to the community.
